Classic Country Gold

In 2023 I was fortunate to be part of the “Classic Country Gold” production that toured around some of Australia’s great theatres. The show featured the songs of (1) Tammy Wynette, sung by South Aussie treasure Amber Joy Poulton, (2) Patsy Cline, performed by the wonderful Lizzy Moore, and (3) Glen Campbell and John Denver, as performed by consummate pro and fellow Riverina boy Darren Coggan. As well as a standard country band, the show included a 30-odd piece concert orchestra conducted by maestro Graeme Press.

It was a memorable experience, especially hearing some of my personal favourites like Witchita Lineman and Galveston come to life with a big orchestra, true to the original lush arrangements on the recordings. As the steel player on this gig, my main job was to not get in the way. Here are a few pics.

Me, Steve Todd (drums), Anthony Stewart (guitar), Richard Coates (piano), Quinton Dunne (bass, MD).
